Interview with KJ

Tuesday, April 22, 2014

Recently I've been thinking, there are so many great bloggers out there, which deserve attention and appreciation. I thought it'd be a great idea to interview some of my favourite beauty and fashion bloggers, starting with Kathryn Jamshidi. So here it goes!

"1. How long have you been blogging and why did you choose to start a blog?

My blog's one year anniversary is actually coming up at the end of this month! About a year and a half ago I discovered the likes of Tanya Burr, SprinkleOfGlitter and Zoella on YouTube, and subsequently started reading their blogs; I felt inspired to start my own but held back for a while as I was worried no one would want to read it, however after months of dreaming about having my own blog I caved and KJ was created. I've always loved writing and dreamed of a career as a fashion journalist, or blogger, or basically anything that involves writing, creativity and social media, so setting up my own blog seemed like a good place to gain some experience in the field.

2. Have you always liked fashion and beauty or is that something that started when you made your blog?

I've always been interested in fashion and beauty; fashion more so as I am fairly confident I know what I'm talking about when it comes to clothes. Writing beauty posts is a little more daunting for me as I don't really know what I'm doing when it comes to skincare and makeup, I sort of just bumble through and find what works for me. Having a blog has allowed me to have an outlet for all my interests; fashion, beauty, cooking and crafting included, and has motivated me to spend more time focusing on those interests. I have definitely become more experimental with my style since writing my blog and reading others, as there's a lot of inspiration out there in the bloggersphere.

3. What is your InstaDiary?

InstaDiary is something I like to do when I've got a bit of writers block, or don't have a lot of time to work on creating a post. I just throw together my latest Instagram photos, add a few captions, and I'm good to go! It gives readers an insight in to what I've been wearing, eating and doing over the week and is more compact than doing a whole post on one outfit. I love checking out other blogger's Instagram photos as it gives a slightly different insight in to their life, as they share things on there that they might not post about on their blog, so that's where I got the idea from.

4. What products or items can't you live without and use on a regular basis?

This is a tricky one, as I barely have any products that I've fallen in love with and continue to buy again and again. I use my Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter most days, as it's great for keeping my lips hydrated and giving them a bit of colour. I love my Chanel nail varnishes and lipsticks as they are long lasting, and feel so luxurious to wear. As for items I couldn't live without, my Canon 450D and my sewing machine are pretty much the two things I need in my life. Oh, and my phone and laptop of course...

5. Are there any products you're hoping to try out?

I want to try out a high-end mascara soon, preferably YSL Baby Doll. I've been left relatively underwhelmed by all the high street mascaras I've tried and so am curious to see whether spending a little more will result in the long, luscious lashes I've always dreamed of. I'd also like to try more products similar to the Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters, as lipsticks tend to dry out my lips, so highly pigmented balms work much better for me.

6. Do you have any exciting blog related things coming up soon?

At the beginning of May I'm heading up to Oxford with a friend for a few days, so I'll be taking a ton of photos there and hopefully putting up a few posts about that, which I'm excited for. Apart from that I don't have anything in particular lined up, I'm just excited to have finally settled in to a "blogging routine". I've been posting a lot more regularly and confidently over the last few months, and no longer feel the need to try and be like the bloggers who first inspired me to start writing one. I've learnt to be myself and create posts that I enjoy, and not worry too much about how many followers or pageviews I have.

Thank you for inviting me to do this collaboration post with you, it's a first for me so it's all very exciting! Hopefully we can do another one in the future!
