School Beauty Suggestions

Wednesday, January 07, 2015

School is upon us yet again, as we are beginning our first term of 2015. I thought this would be an ideal time to share with you some of my beauty suggestions for school, especially for those of you who aren't allowed to wear a lot of makeup.

For school, especially one that doesn't tolerate makeup, foundation will probably be too heavy on your skin and noticeable, so I'd suggest using a concealer instead. Apply a small amount, focusing on any blemishes and redness, and buff it into your skin to give a natural, flawless look. To set it, use a translucent powder that will keep your makeup in place and stop it from wearing off throughout the day. This is especially helpful if you will be doing sports or dance and isn't at all noticeable.

If you're looking a bit pale and washed out after the concealer, you may want to apply some bronzer. Choose something with very little or no shimmer, as that can be an immediate giveaway that you are wearing makeup, whereas you want to look naturally bronzed. Choose a colour that is slightly darker than you skin tone and lightly dust it all over your face to add warmth.

To brighten up your face and add some more colour, opt for a subtle blusher. Make sure you choose something that is close to your natural blush colour and isn't too shimmery, as these will look most effective for this natural look. Less is more in this case, as a bit of blusher will make you look healthier but isn't over the top.

If you want to wear eyeshadow for school, I'd steer away from anything glittery or with lots of shimmer, especially if your school doesn't allow makeup. Pick eyeshadows that are neutral shades to ensure that it will look natural. A great tip is to put concealer on your eyelids, as this will remove any redness and veins but not be as noticeable as eyeshadow. If you want it to be a bit more dramatic, use a matte brown lightly in the crease to add dimension and define your eyes.

Mascara can often look clumpy and is an obvious sign that you're wearing makeup. It can also cause problems if you're doing dance or sports, as it might run or smudge. Instead, I'd recommend curling your lashes or adding some clear mascara. This opens up your eyes and makes you look awake without having to put on mascara. If you feel like this isn't enough and you need something a bit more than this, buy a natural brown or black mascara to enhance your eyelashes. Make sure you steer away from anything too lengthening or voluminous.

Finally, a tinted lip balm can be used on your lips. These are nourishing and care for your lips but also provide a sheer wash of colour. If you want to opt for a lipstick, a nude or pale pink that is close to your natural lip colour would be ideal and compliment the rest of the makeup look.

I hope you liked this post and that you know what makeup to wear for school. Obviously, you don't have to do all of these things and it can be adapted to your own school, makeup and what you feel comfortable wearing. Thanks for reading and be sure to let me know down in the comments what you think!

  1. Personally at my school, we weren't allowed to wear make up until Sixth Form and as someone who appreciates all the time she could get in bed in the morning, I wasn't particularly fussed about bending that rule! Some good ideas for what make up to wear if you do want to try, though I would probably have avoided blush/bronzer purely because it can look a bit OTT in the harsh bright lights of a school and be a bit of a tell tale sign!

    1. At my school, we're allowed to wear minimal makeup, but I guess each school differs. Thank you very much by the way! I can usually get away with a light dusting of blusher but it depends on the person and school I guess! x
