Ask Daisy #6 - Blogging Edition

Sunday, July 12, 2015

You probably know what this type of post entails by now, but if you're new to my blog then this is a series where I answer popular questions submitted by my readers. It's a great way for you to learn more about me and I really enjoy writing them, hence why this is now the sixth post in the series. Anyway, I'll get on with the answers now, so I hope you enjoy hearing them.

Is this your first attempt at blogging or have you tried it in the past?
I don't think I've mentioned this on my blog before, but a couple of years prior to starting Daisies and Delights (probably around 2012), I created a blog sharing my creations and collages from Polyvore. I can't remember what it was called, but there was next to no writing involved and all the images used weren't my own, so I'd hardly class it as blogging to the level that I do now. Regardless of this, I really enjoyed it but stopped after a few months due to trying a new hobby.

What is one thing that you have enjoyed seeing grow as your blog has become larger?
I've loved watching my writing improve and develop from being awkward and dry to flowing and more professional. I'm not claiming to be an excellent writer now, but I've definitely improved considerably since starting my blog. Although I was oblivious to it at first, I soon noticed that an increase in readers urged me to improve my writing, which I'm really thankful for and I'm definitely glad that I've had the opportunity to do so.

Are there any blogging series' that you do but don't enjoy?
I honestly can't think of any, as I really enjoy writing a lot of my posts, otherwise I wouldn't upload them. However, I do sometimes find writing my monthly favourites a chore, as there's not always a lot to say, especially about products that you've heard lots about before. Aside from this though, I find all of my blog posts interesting and enjoyable to write, and if I wasn't pleased with them I probably wouldn't continue writing them, no matter how popular they were.

What made you want to blog about makeup opposed to any other topic?
When I created my blog, I also spent a lot of time watching beauty gurus on Youtube and reading their own blogs, so I was definitely inspired by them to write about this topic. At the time, it seemed like an easy subject to write about and lots of people loved their videos and posts, so I knew it was popular. It was also around this time that I started properly experimenting with makeup and wanting to wear more than just a bit of concealer and lipgloss, so beauty seemed like a good topic to choose.

Why don't you usually post makeup tutorials if you consider yourself a beauty blogger?
Beauty doesn't just mean makeup tutorials, it's a whole selection of things, so I feel like I can still be a beauty blogger without posting these often. Also, if I'm being honest, I find it incredibly difficult to write and photograph makeup tutorials. I'm much better at reviewing products than writing about them from a tutorial point of view, so these posts often end up being my impressions on the makeup items rather than how to apply them. With photographing the makeup looks, it's incredibly hard to get it to show up well and do the look justice, as my phone camera doesn't always pick up how pretty it actually looks or the intricate details. I'm definitely going to try and post these more often, especially if it's what my readers want.

Is there any type of post that you would like to write about on your blog?
I've been saying this for quite some time now, but I've always wanted to write more lifestyle posts and share things such as holidays, days out and events. I find it really hard to do these things, as I spend most days in school rather than doing crazy, interesting things to blog about, but whenever I do manage to pop up one of these posts they are well received. I'd also like to write more about books, which I post quite often about now but I'd love to share more reviews and opinions on my favourite novels and authors.

Thanks for reading and I hope you liked this post. I'd love to hear some of your answers to these questions, which you can leave down in the comments. Also, feel free to submit any questions and I'll try my best to answer it in an upcoming post.

Love from Daisy x
